Kolkata : Professor Ambikesh Mahapatra has lodged a complaint in the Election Commission on Thursday in protest to threats posed to him by an IC.
The I.C. of Haridebpur has threatened Ambikesh Mahapatra to not allow him inside ward number 142 on April 30. In response to such a threat, Ambikesh decided to lodge a complaint with the Election Commission.
Ambikesh Mahapatra is an independent candidate, contesting against the Kolkata Mayor and sitting MLA Sovan Chatterjee from Behala East. Mahapatra is contesting with the backing of Akranta Amra against alleged “atrocities” and “human rights violations” by Trinamool Congress.
Ambikesh Mahapatra, a Jadavpur University chemistry professor was arrested some years back, for circulating a picture spoof on Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee and the then railway minister Mukul Roy. The charge against the professor, Ambikesh Mahapatra, is that he had sent emails with the spoof, parodying Satyajit Ray’s detective flick, Sonar Kella (The Golden Fortress).
The spoof, which became viral, had lines from the film, in which a boy called Mukul is duped by two criminals into believing that they caused a “wicked man” — who is actually a good person — to “vanish”. In the spoof, the “wicked man” who has “vanished” is former railway minister Dinesh Trivedi, forced out of office by Banerjee in March.
