Washington: American electronic commerce and cloud computing company, Amazon.com, Inc. plans to open upto 400 physical bookstores in US malls, reports suggest.
Although the company has not officially confirmed on its plan of expansion of bookstores, reports Reuters. “You’ve got Amazon opening brick-and-mortar bookstores and their goal is to open, as I understand, 300 to 400 bookstores,” Sandeep Mathrani, chief executive of General Growth Properties Inc (GGP.N), said.
Meanwhile, an Amazon spokeswoman refused to comment and termed it as ‘rumours and speculation’.
Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Amazon.com, Inc. is the largest Internet-based retailer in the United States. Amazon.com started as an online bookstore, later diversifying to sell DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, video downloads or streaming, MP3 downloads or streaming, audiobook downloads or streaming, software, video games, electronics, apparel, furniture, food, toys and jewellery.
