Kolkata: Already a case has been filed against Alipurduar DM Nikhil Nirmal on Monday. A video has surfaced showing an Alipurduar District Magistrate (DM) of thrashing a man inside a police station for allegedly making derogatory comments on his wife on social media.
While the district administration was tight lipped about the incident, state secretariat sources said that the DM has been asked to go on leave for 10 days.Meanwhile, an FIR has been lodged against the DM and his wife at a local police station by the family members of the victim, police said.
From now Additional district magistrates will be in charge of the district. According to sources, Nabanna did not take it as good work becuase DM disobeyed the law and order. After that govt asked DM to take leave immediately.
The DM reportedly threatened the man, identified as one Vinod Kumar Sarkar, that he could enter the man’s house any day within 30 minutes and could ‘even kill him’.
According to multiple reports, Nirmal’s wife Nandini added Sarkar to her Facebook group on Saturday night after which he reportedly made the derogatory remarks. Basis a complaint by the Nirmal, Sarkar was brought to the police station. The DM and his wife reached the police station on Sunday morning and thrashed Sarkar in presence of the police personnel.
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday afternoon. According to the report, the police did not intervene. The video also shows that the DM’s wife asked the police personnel to get a baton from the car so that she too, could thrash the accused.
Even after the controversy, his wife Nandini stood beside the her husband. She said that she is proud of her husband.
