Jammu: Pakistan on Tuesday continued to violate truce along the border in Jammu and Kashmir, even as actor Akshay Kumar paid tribute to Border Security Force (BSF) personnel martyred in ceasefire violations and encounters in the state.

The latest transgression by Pakistan comes barely two days after shelling from the neighbouring country led to the death of an Indian Army jawan. The army had said back then it had managed to foil two infiltration attempts, and the soldier was killed in the process. The army had also said the shelling from the Pakistani side was meant to provide cover for the infiltrators, further bolstering India’s claims that Pakistan exports terrorism to its neighbours.

Pakistani troops on Monday morning fired at Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC), and also resorted to shelling. The Indian Army replied in kind to the firing, which began at 8:45 am on Tuesday, and there has since been several exchanges of fire between both sides. There has been no report of casualty from any of the sides, unlike late last month, when a few BSF jawans had been killed in firing and shelling from the Pakistani side. India had replied strongly to those transgressions.

Actor Akshay Kumar on Tuesday visited the BSF base camp in Jammu and paid tribute to personnel from the force who had been martyred in ceasefire violations and encounters with terrorists.

Speaking at the occasion, the actor, who has recently begun shooting for the film Toilet – Ek Prem Katha, said: “It is fortunate that I got the opportunity to come and meet you. I have always said I am a reel hero, while you are the real heroes.”

He also promoted an interesting idea, saying: “There are so many people in our country who want to help our armed forces. Why not make an app for it?” Asked about the Indo-Pakistan peace process, he said: “Peace is important as many lives are otherwise lost in violence. I think peace is the only way out.”
