Akhilesh Yadav’s Hi-Tech ‘Rath’ Breaks Down

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav’s snazzy vehicle for his Vikas Rath Yatra has been the talk of the town.

However, in a major embarrassment, the hi-tech rath has broken down barely a kilometer after it started from Lucknow.

The rath is scheduled to cover a distance of 70 km and reach Unnao. In between, Akhilesh is expected to make several pit-stops and address his supporters

The 37-foot-long and 15-foot tall bus has been specially modified for the chief minister. The 10-wheel Mercedes bus has been equipped with top-of-the-line gadgets and amenities. It has a working office, a wi-fi connection, a hydraulic lift, a restroom and a seating area.

According to some reports, the bullet-proof bus is likely to cost anywhere between Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore. Akhilesh is scheduled to tour the entire state on this rath ahead of the 2017 assembly elections.

In 2012, he had campaigned across the state on the ‘Kranti Rath’ which he had inherited from his father and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.

The Mercedes bus, painted in the party colour, carries the images of the SP chief, the chief minister and socialist leaders Jayaprakash Narayan, Ram Manohar Lohia and Jnaneshwar Mishra. The picture of the state party unit chief Shivpal Yadav, however, is missing.
