Lucknow: Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee has reached Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow to hold an anti-demonetisation rally there tomorrow.
Banerjee, who landed at Lucknow airport around 08.30 in the evening, was welcomed by UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and some of his Cabinet colleagues at the airport.
The Trinamool supremo thanked him for the gesture, which Akhilesh clarified was a courtesy extended to a senior politician who was visiting his state. He ruled out his presence at Banerjee’s rally that will be held at Lucknow’s 1090 crossing from 10 am Tuesday.
“It is her programme, why should I go there?” Akhilesh told news persons when asked. Earlier in the day, Trinamool vice-president Mukul Roy, who has been camping in Lucknow to oversee the preparations, told reporters that they have sent out invitations to all the heads of various political parties including Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party.
“But attending the event is their prerogative. After all, it is not an all-party meet,” he said.
