Algiers Province: A plane has reportedly “disappeared” off the radar after declaring a mid-air emergency.

The Boeing 737-600 from Algiers to Marseille took off safely this afternoon but put out an emergency call shortly after take-off, the Mirron reports. Initially the radar showed the jet turning around to head back towards its origin airport but before it landed it had disappeared from view entirely.

The flight, AH1020, took off around 1.30pm local time and was due to arrive in Marseille just after 4pm. It’s not yet known what caused the emergency.

The plane is not currently on the radar – however aircraft are not to show any activity under 17,000 on this particular flight path.
