Kolkata: In one of the biggest seizures of gold at Dumdum Airport, officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Kolkata Zonal Unit, seized 1 kg 159.700 gram of gold from a lady passenger on Thursday.
DRI officials questioned the lady and seized the 1kg 159.700 gram of gold sheet wrapped in crabon paper. According to DRI officials, the gold valued at about Rs. 35 Lakh, 25 thousands was allegedly being smuggled in from Dubai. Later the lady has been arrested.
Earlier, more than five kg gold was seized from a passenger at the airport in Kolkata after the man arrived from Dubai, Customs officials said.
The 60-year-old man on wheelchair was intercepted by Customs officials who recovered eight gold bars weighing 5.35 kg from him last night.
The man used the wheelchair as a ploy as later it was found that he was fit enough to walk, they said. The man, hailing from Tamil Nadu, was arrested. His name was not disclosed.
