After airport, Andal gears up for organ-transplant hospital

Andal: After the first green-field airport, Andal is getting prepared for a medical significance- the Mission Hospital in Durgapur will now go ahead with its plan of another hospital, this one with special focus on organ transplant. The 200 crore project will see the hospital with 200-250 beds coming up on a 2-acre land. “Some beds, around 20-30, will be kept for emergency or for patients who need to be kept under observation. We are tying up with a foreign firm that has transplant experts.

The hospital will have facilities for liver, kidney, bone marrow and pancreas transplant. We are eying a JCI (Joint Commission International) accreditation so that overseas patients too fly in,” said Dr Satyajit Bose, chairman of Mission Hospital.  The new hospital will have air-ambulance facilities so that patients can be airlifted from Andal airport. “We had been waiting for the airport to take off. Now, after the planning stage is over, it’ll take about two years to complete the hospital,” said the doctor.
