Abisheak’s assaulter charged with ‘Attempt to Murder’


Tamluk:Debasish Acharya, the 25 year old youth who assaulted Abisheak Banerjee, the nephew of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, at a rally in Tamluk of East Midnapore, has been charged with attempt to murder. Police today filed an FIR against the accused who is currently undergoing treatment at Tamluk hospital after being bashed up by Trinamool supporters present at the meeting. His condition is stated to be critical.

Trinamool leaders have termed the incident as intentional and blamed ABVP and RSS for the attack. It has been learnt that Acharya has admitted of being associated with ABVP as its active member. Describing the act cowardly, Trinamool General Secretary Partha Chatterjee said that he has asked the SP to investigate and submit a report immediately.

BJP has dismissed all the charges and has put the entire blame on the factional feud of TMC. Party spokesperson Derek ‘o’ Brien has termed the incident as an attempt to threaten the life of the MP, who also happens to be the President of Trinamool Youth Congress.
