Mumbai: Former Bollywood playback singer Abhijeet landed into a controversy after his abusive posts on Twitter targeting a journalist. The Mumbai police have said they will take strong action in what is potentially a case of sexual harassment.
Abhijeet, known for his right-leaning views, had launched a Twitter tirade against journalist Swati Chaturvedi and jantakareporter.com’s editor-in-chief, Rifat Jawaid after they objected against a post of his regarding the murder of an Infosys techie in Chennai.
Abhijeet’s post, saying the murder was a result of love jihad, had drawn a reaction from Ms Charurvedi, a Delhi-based journalist, who said the murderer was a man called Ramkumar and he has been arrested. She said the singer was trying to “foment communal riots”. She also said the singer was “jealous of Pakistani singers who took his mediocre career”.
The singer retaliated with abusive language, which drew widespread condemnation from twitterati and calls for police action against him. Asked if she has alerted the police, Ms Chaturvedi told that the Mumbai police has been “proactive” in the case.
