New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today moved the Supreme Court challenging an earlier decision by the Allahabad HC to acquit Talwar couple in the 2008 Aarushi-Hemraj murder case.

The Allahabad high court had on October 12 last year acquitted Rajesh and Nupur Talwar in the murder of their teenage daughter Aarushi and their domestic help Hemraj in 2008, saying they could not be held guilty on the basis of the evidence on record.

The HC’s verdict ended the nine-year-long ordeal of the victim’s parents who were found guilty by a CBI court for murdering Aarushi and Hemraj.

In December last year, the wife of victim Hemraj had challenged the HC’s verdict in Supreme Court. On November 25, 2013, the special CBI court in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad had found the Talwars guilty of murdering Aarushi and Hemraj and were sentenced to life in prison a day after the verdict.
