New Delhi:  Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supporters on Wednesday protested outside the house of BJP legislator O P Sharma, for his alleged sexist remarks about AAP MLA Alka Lamba in the Delhi Assembly a day earlier.

During a discussion in the Assembly, Sharma said about Lamba: “Yeh raat bhar ghoomne wali hai (She’s the type who roams around all night).”

AAP legislators demanded Sharma’s suspension from the House. Speaker Ramniwas Goel called Sharma’s comment “shameful” and suspended the BJP leader until Friday.

“We want O P Sharma to apologies for his remarks against a woman,” an AAP worker told. The Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal also expressed shock at Sharma’s derogatory remarks and assured Lamba of the Commission’s support.

Maliwal called Sharma a “habitual offender” and someone who lacks respect for women. She added that the Commission had earlier recommended filing an FIR against Sharma, who in August called Lamba “a drug addict.”
