New Delhi: The CBI on Friday filed a supplementary chargesheet against extradited gangster Chhota Rajan in the 2011 murder of journalist J Dey. Rajan was brought to the country from Indonesia in November last year. The chargesheet was submitted before the special court housed at Arthur road jail.
In January this year, the CBI took over the investigations and registered an FIR to probe the role of gangster. The CBI had registered the FIR against Rajan under IPC sections 302 (murder) and 34 (common intention), along with the Arms Act.
The 55-year-old accused is alleged to be the main conspirator on whose behest Dey was gunned down in broad daylight by two bike-borne sharpshooters in June 2011. The police had filed a chargesheet against Rajan, who was absconding at that time, and his men under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act on December 3, 2011. It was alleged that Rajan was upset with Dey’s stories against him and allegedly hatched a plan to kill him. The crime branch arrested 10 people, including journalist Jigna Vora. She is currently out on bail. In June 2015, the special MCOCA court framed charges against them.
Rohit Joseph alias Satish Kaliya, allegedly shot Dey from close range. The others include his associates Anil Waghmode, Abhijit Shinde, Nilesh Shedge, Arun Dake, Mangesh Aagwane, Sachin Gaikwad, Deepak Sisodia and Joseph Paulson. One Nayansingh Bisht, who allegedly provided the weapon to the shooters, is shown as absconding. Builder Vinod Asrani alias Chembur, who was accused of identifying Dey to shooters, died of kidney failure later. His case is abated.
