Roorkee: 73 students have been expelled from IIT-Roorkee for scoring less than 5 points in the Second Semester Examinations of the prestigious institute. The strict measure has been taken by the IIT-Roorkee authorities. Director Pradip Banerjee said, “73 students who have scored less than Point 5 in their examination has been expelled after the results of the 1st year came out.
The professors have also raised questions regarding the quality of the entrance exam of the IIT-JEE. The guardians of the expelled students have requested the authorities to reconsider the decision. The authorities finalized their decision after a number of meetings. Before taking admission the guardians have to sign a form that if the students perform poorly then then will be expelled.
No reaction has been available from the HRD Ministry. However in a statement it has been said that IIT is a self-Governed Institute. The incident is also not new. Similar incidents have previously occurred in Kharagpore and Kanpur too.
