Damascus: Thousands of Syrian refugees head for Turkey yesterday fleeing carnage caused by Russian bombing in the city of Aleppo. Turkish officials estimated up to 70,000 people had gathered at a border crossing.

The country’s PM Ahmet Davutoglu warned 300,000 people living in Aleppo are ready to head towards his country. The alert came as Hungary’s foreign minister said up to 35million more migrants could march on Europe.

Peter Szijjarto called for action to end conflicts and improve life in their home countries. He also wants international troops, ships and helicopters to protect EU borders.

He said at the London School of Economics: “There are 30 to 35million people in the southern and southeastern neighbourhood of the EU who can easily make a decision to hit the road.”
