New Delhi: Pakistan sources in New Delhi said India’s decision to deny them permission to India was unacceptable and that India’s deputy high commissioner in Islamabad, JP Singh, had been summoned to lodge a protest officially.
“The diplomats only wanted to visit Kolkata to encourage the Pakistan cricket team,” said a diplomatic source, adding that the Indian government had been “unnecessarily” hostile with Pakistan over the cricket issue.
As TOI had first reported last week, Pakistan had approached MEA seeking permission for 45 of its officials based here, including top diplomats, to visit Kolkata and Mohali where the Pakistan team is scheduled to play in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
India officials though said it wasn’t possible to allow all of them to visit the centres where Pakistan is playing. “Such decisions in any case are taken on the basis of reciprocity,” said an Indian official.
