6.9 magnitude quake strikes Solomon Islands


Sydney: Tremors measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale strikes off the Solomon Islands in the Pacific on Thursday according to a report by USGS. No Tsunami alert has been issued. The quake hit at a depth of 19 kilometres (11 miles), some 184 kilometres from Lata and 487 kilometres from the capital Honiara.

“Based on all available data there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake,” the Pacific Tsunami Warning centre said.
