5 Suspected Bangladesh Mujahideen Militants Detained In Dhaka


Dhaka: Five suspected operatives of the banned militant organisation Jama’atul Mujahideen BangladeshJama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) have been detained with at least 30 kg explosives.

The five suspects were detained from Darus Salam area of the capital city Dhaka during a raid by the counter-terrorism unit on Tuesday night. CTTU chief Monirul Islam confirmed the development in a press briefing at DMP Media Center on Wednesday.

Islam said that the detainees were accumulating explosives with an intention to carry out an attack on the nigh to December 31 in Dhaka, upon instruction from Zia, Haider and Shahidullah of JMB’s Rajshahi section. Islam also said that the suspects were active members of old JMB.

Monirul said, “The law enforcers also seized explosive materials, bomb making equipments and some books from the suspected JMB militants.” He also said that in primary interrogation, the militants revealed that they had planned to carry out attacks on the 31 night.

Meanwhile, a Dhaka court today placed the five suspects on a 7-day remand each in a case under the Explosives Substance Act. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmudul Hasan passed the order after the militants were produced before the court seeking ten days remand. The accused are Riaz alias Engineer alias Rakib, Abu Bin Saim alias Bappi alias Opu, Kazi Abdullah Al Osman alias Ahsan, Sohag alias Chairman and Mamun alias Himel.
