Kolkata: Four child-friendly courts have been inaugurated from Bichar Bhawan in Kolkata on Saturday. Others have been set up at Purba Bardhhaman Sadar, Bankura Sadar and Khatra Sub-Division in Bankura.
Supreme Court Justice Madan B Lokur inaugurated all the courts through a video conference on Saturday. Bardhaman’s District Judge Keshong Doma Bhutia, Supreme Court Judge Indira Bandyopadhyay, Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya, Justice Sanjeev Bandyopadhyay, Justice Nadira Patharia and other judges were present. The judges praises the court room.
The court room has been developed as child-friendly. Children feel comfortable during the trial. That is why the cartoon character of the courtroom wall has been enhanced. Separate rooms were built for children to sit. All such measures have been made for children and their families so that they can feel fearless in this court. There are many kinds of games for children. Chocolate, cakes and drinking water are also provided for children.
Tapos Samanta and Gautam Mukherjee, two public prosecutors in the court, said, “Children are often scared to give witness. Due to not favorable conditions, children are having problems. Children and their families can not provide accurate information. In the new system, that problem will be overcome.
