Srinagar: In a series of attacks on policemen on Eid eve, a police officer was shot dead by suspected militants on Wednesday evening in Pulwama village of south Kashmir.
Reports reaching said that some gunmen barged inside the residential house of the police officer of Inspector rank at Larve village and fired upon him. In the incident, the officer suffered multiple bullet wounds and died instantly on the spot, they said.
The deceased has been identified as Mohd Ashraf Dar. Dar was posted at District Police Lines (DPL) Budgam and was on leave on Eid eve. A top police officer also confirmed the attack and said that militants are responsible for the killing.
He said that searches were launched in the village soon after the attack. This was the third attack on the policemen in south Kashmir today. Earlier in the day, two policemen were shot dead in separate attacks at Kulgam and Pulwama districts.
