Kharagpur: Around 39 children, all between 5 to 14 years, were rescued by the Kharagpur railway police on Sunday after NGO ChildLine informed cops that they were being sent to study Islamic studies in a Maharashtra madrassa without permission.

Police have asked their Bihar counterparts to further investigate the allegations. Till then the children will be kept with ChildLine under proper care. Sources said 37 of the 39 are from Bihar’s Arrah and two from Purnea. They were rescued from the Howrah-Secunderabad Falaknuma Express’s S-8 to S-12 bogies.

The Kharagpur GRP wasn’t willing to elaborate on the case till they get more information from Bihar.
