377 Plea: SC Refers To 5 Judge Bench

New Delhi: Providing a major relief to the LGBT community, the Supreme Court on Tuesday referred the challenge against Section 377 of the IPC to a five-judge bench. The Court said several “Constitutional dimensions of importance” are ingrained in the challenge against Section 377, which criminalizes homosexuality.

The three-judge bench led by CJI T.S. Thakur, however, did not issue notice to the Centre on the plea and left it to the Constitution Bench.
