Mumbai: In a shocking incident on Saturday, at least 33 people are feared dead
after a bus fell down a mountain road. The incident occurred in Ambenali Ghat in
Maharashtra’s Raigad district.
NDRF team has been rushed to the spot. Rescue operations are being carried out to
pull out any survivors from the bus which rolled down into the gorge.
According to reports, a group from Dapoli Agriculture University was on a way to
picnic to Mahabaleshwar.
Sandeep Patil, superintendent of police (Satara district) said, “We fear that the
death toll is very high. The bus was carrying around 35 persons. Our teams from
local police station are at the spot. NDRF teams have been called in. Local
trekkers are also on the job.”
One of the survivors, who somehow managed to get out of the bus alive, called some
people he knew. This is how this major mishap came into limelight. Police officials said that the valley is 300 feet deep.
Taking to Twitter, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “Pained to know about the loss of lives in the Mahabaleshwar bus accident. The administration is taking all efforts to provide required assistance. Senior officials and emergency management systems in place. My thoughts are with families who lost loved ones and prayers for speedy recovery of injured.”
