Kolkata: The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has announced a special prize for
the puja committees of Kolkata. They had announced that a special prize will be
given to that puja committee which will spread the best message on dengue.
To spread awareness among citizens on dengue, this award has been named as ‘Swastha
Bandhav Sharad Samman’ as per the KMC. Mayor Parishad (health) Atin Ghosh said,
“This sharad samman (prize) is being given mainly to allow the puja committees to
preach the messages on mosquito-borne diseases to the people of the area.”
The KMC has divided the puja committees under 8 zones. 3 committees from each zone,
which means a total of 24 committees, will get the ‘Sera 3’ or top 3 prize. These
winners will get a cash reward of Rs. 30 thousand. Apart from this, 3 more
committees from each zone, or total 24 puja committees will be given ‘mahanagorik-
er pochondo’ or citizen’s choice award. They will get a cash reward of Rs. 5
The puja committees will go door-to-door in their own area on 4th and 5th October
and preach their message. On 7th October, they will spread their message at the
anti-dengue campaign programme. A video clipping and photo CD of these activities
will have to be submitted for proof. The top 10 committees according to zones will
be declared on October 11. The results will be out on Panchami.
In the first round, all committees set-up under one board will have to prove
themselves on 60% out of 100 marks. Based on the marks, 5 pujas from each zone will
go to the final round. After this, on Chaturthi, several teams will go and see the
8 zones, their overall value and the structure of the anti-dengue stall. Seeing
this, the marks on the rest of 40% will be decided.
