16 drowned in Bangladesh boat capsize, 30 resued

Dhaka: At least sixteen people including a baby has been reportedly killed in Bangladesh Boat capsize on Sunday.

30 passengers were rescued from the Padma river after a boat capsized 70 Km north of the the National Capital Dhaka. The vessel was carrying more than 100 people when it sunk into the river after colliding with a cargo vessel.

Most of the passengers have been rescued by nearby boats in a joint operation by the naval authorities and the police.

A six month old girl was killed in the incident. The ferry was heading towards Paturia from Daulatdia in Rajbari when the incident occurred.

This is the second incident of boat capsize within 10 days. On 13 february, five persons were killed when a ferry overloaded with nearly 200 people capsized in the Paria river.
