3 Maoists Killed In Police Encounter In Kerala


Thiruvananthapuram: Three Maoists, including a woman dalam leader, were killed in Nilambur forests in Malappuram, Kerala today afternoon. The police identified Devraj alias Kukku and Ajita, a woman leader among the killed. Another person was not identified.

According to Loknath Behera, DGP Kerala, a police team headed by Malappuram superintendent of police sealed the area, where the Maoists were camping. “When they refused to surrender, police fired and three persons were killed in the encounter,” Behera said.

The police received information that an armed gang was moving in Kurulayi forest range and a police team was rushed to the spot. “The team was located four kilometers away from the local village inside the forest. When the police sealed the area, the gang started firing,” a senior police official  revealed.

Nilambur, Silent valley, Iritty and some part of Wayanad district had recorded Maoist presence in Kerala earlier.
