Madurai: 40 kilograms of gold worth Rs. ten crore have been seized at the airport in Madurai and three persons taken into custody in this connection, customs officials said today.
The gold could be smuggled on a flight from Sri Lanka and Spice Jet flight from Dubai. Director of Customs conducted searches in both the aircraft last night and have been arrested 3 persons.
The officials said a suitcase containing gold biscuits, weighing 33 kgs, was found abandoned under a seat in the Madurai-bound plane from Colombo while seven kilograms of gold were seized from three passengers in the other aircraft.
The three have been taken for questioning. The police launched the investigation to look the matter.
