Ludhiana: Three people are dead and some 15 are feared trapped after a fire broke out today at a factory that makes plastic bags in the industrial city of Ludhiana in Punjab, police said.
The three-storeyed factory at Mushtaq Nagar in the city caved in as firefighters were trying to control the blaze with an array of pressurised water hoses.
Police said some firefighters are also feared trapped in the debris.
“We have managed to pull out one body. The person’s identify is not known,” said Ludhiana senior police officer Jitender Singh, who is near the factory coordinating rescue efforts.
Bulldozers are trying to remove the concrete and steel debris, police said, before it gets dark. Ambulances have arrived at the factory to take away injured people whenever they are pulled out from underneath the debris.
