New Delhi: Nearly 3.75 crore bogus ration cards have been taken out of the Public Distribution System (PDS) because of digitization of ration cards. This will reduce leakage and diversion of highly subsidized food grains.
Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ramvilas Paswan highlighted the importance of IT based system in helping food grain management and bring transparency. He told media that so far 97% of the ration cards have already been digitized and the rest would be done soon.
Paswan also added that the food security scheme will cover the entire country except Tamil Nadu by April.
