21 killed in Manipur landslide


Imphal: 21 people have been reported dead due to a landslide in the khejoy district of Manipur which is situated along the Indo-Myanmar border. The weather in the mountain state had been extremely stormy over the last few days and this is being suspected as a cause of the slides.

The incessant downpour have caused flood in major parts of the state. The rivers flowing through the state have crossed the danger mark. The state government issued high alert earlier in the day and has begun evacuating those stranded in the floods.

The relief operations have been affected since the state has been cut-off from the neighboring regions owing to the floods. Various bridges connecting Manipur internally has been washed off. NH 37, which connects Manipur with Mozoram and Tripura has also been badly affected resulting in the state being completely cut off.
