179 Kashmiri Youth Join Indian Army


Jammu: Army on Thursday said 179 youths of Kashmir donned the olive uniform and joined India Army here at Rangreth and pledged their lives to the service of the Nation.

A defence spokesman said in an impressive passing-out-parade held at the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Centre at Rangreth, 179 smartly turned out recruits of the course serial 105, became soldiers amidst thunderous applause of over 2500 spectators that included the parents and relatives of the young soldiers besides other officials from Army and Civil Administration.

“The Parade was reviewed by Major General Somnath Jha, who is the Chief of Staff of a Corps. Congratulating the dauntless soldiers hailing from all regions and religions of the State for their grit and determination, the General Officer exhorted them to serve the nation with selflessness. He also complimented them for being an inspiration to the youth of the State,” the spokesman said.

During the investiture ceremony, General Jha also presented awards to the meritorious recruits who excelled in various facets of training. Recruit Ishan Hussain Khan of Anantnag received the Chewang Rinchen medal for being adjudged ‘best firing’ and Recruit Aamir Manzoor of Bandipora bagged the Bana Singh Medal for being best in drill.
