17 Acquitted In Keshpur Murder

Midnapore:  In the Keshpur Violence, which took place in 2000, 17 accused have been acquitted of all charges as per orders by the Midnapore Court, on Thursday.

Midnapore’s City Sessions Court’s Justice Prasad Kumar Roy has acquitted all the accused 17 out of 18,of all charges. Violence at Keshpur’s Madhupur claimed the lives of Indranarayan Panja, Nanda C., Mahendra Dolai, Ranjit Mullick and Nantu Ghati in 2000.

6 activists (5 CPM cadres and 1 TMC Activist) died in the Keshpur violence in January 25, 2000 as a result of clashes between goons of CPM and TMC. Complaint was lodged against 79 people by Nanda C’s nephew. Out of them, 61 of them got bailed out. Chargesheet was given against 18 accused.  17 of them have been acquitted of all charges on Thursday due to lack of proofs.

Lawyer Animesh Adhikari said that his clients were not at the place when the incident occurred. It was the regime of the Left front government then. They put TMC activists behind bars for no valid reasons. Today it has been proved that who is guilty and who is not.
