Chandigarh: The main accused of the brutally gangraped and murdered, a 15 year old girl whose half-naked, mutilated body was recovered from a water body in Haryana’s Jind district on Sunday, is a class 12 student who is on the run, the police said today.
Media reported, police said on Sunday that six people from the victim’s native village of Jhansa in Kurukshetra district had been detained in connection with the case.
As per reports, her injuries were reminiscent of those suffered by Nirbhaya, the victim of the horrific December 16 gangrape and murder case, that had outraged the nation six years ago.
Speaking on this, Kurukshetra superintendent of police Abhishek Garg said that raids were being conducted to nab the prime accused.
“The police have detained some people suspecting their involvement but the main accused is still at large. We are conducting raids to arrest him,” the HT quoted Garg said.
The police has also not revealed the name of the Class 12 student accused in the case as he is a minor though they are still trying to verify his age. The girl, a Class 10 student, went missing from her village in Kurukshetra, where she lived with her father – a tailor – and a younger sibling, on January 9.
Meanwhile, the victim’s father has hit out at the administration, reportedly saying, “My daughter was kidnapped and raped. She was tortured… If administration had done its job well, an incident like this would have never happened.” He further blamed the police for not acting on their complaint earlier.
“Why did the police take three days to find our daughter? Had the police acted on our complaint quickly, our daughter may have been alive,” HT quoted him as saying.
A medical examination of the victim has revealed that she received 19 severe injuries on her head, hands, face and chest and that a foreign object was inserted into her private parts, causing massive internal injuries.
Reportedly, before her death, the girl is said to have struggled in a bid to escape and perhaps with an aim to gag her, one of the assailants probably sat on her chest, which led to her lungs and liver rapturing.
“Her body parts were badly damaged, suggesting both unnatural act and gang rape. There were internal injuries as well, suggesting the assailants had inserted a foreign object,” the head of PGIMS Rohtak’s forensic department, Dr S K Dattarwal told the Times of India.
Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has also assured that the culprit in the case would be nabbed soon.
In Panipat, a body of a 11-year-old girl was found in Panipat after she was allegedly ‘killed and then gang-raped’ by two of her neighbours, police said. In yet another case, a 22-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped in a moving car in Haryana’s Faridabad, bordering the national capital on Sunday.
