Violent clashes erupt over Student’s Union election


Kolkata: Tension has been on the rise throughout the state over the student’s union elections. The student’s union elections are being held at colleges and universities throughout the state. Violence spread across Bagdogra College in Siliguri, Dalkhola College and Gaur College in Malda district.

In Malda’s Gaur College TMCP and ABVP supporters clashed with each other over the deposition of nomination papers. ABVP supporters alleged that they were stopped by TMCP supporters from filing their nomination. Violence also erupted at Islampur college.

In Siliguri’s bagdogra college violence broke out between rival student organizations. The students hurled petrol bombs at each other while at Dalkhola college in Raigunj the supporters of ABVP obstructed National Highway 34 after being barred from collecting nomination forms.

The ABVP supporters staged a hunger strike in front of DM’s officer demanding the district administration’s interference on the issue.
