Jaipur: 7 government officials have been suspended as 11 people, including 2 BSF jawans have died in Rajasthan’s Barmer after consumption of spurious liquor. As a result 50 people allegedly belonging to liquor mafia have been arrested.
Two more persons, who had fallen ill after consuming spurious liquor containing high methyl alcohol in Rajasthans Barmer district, died today. “Six persons have died and 11 have been hospitalised so far. All of them had consumed spurious liquor,” Superintendent of Police Barmer Paris Anil Deshmukh said.
BSF head constables Bhal Singh and Tapan Das and two others died yesterday. Besides the BSF personnel, other victims were identified as Mulla Ram, Bhika Ram, Mangala Ram, Keema Ram, Deshmukh said. He said those who fell ill have been admitted to hospitals in Barmer and Jodhpur.
“The matter is being investigated,” he said. The incident took place yesterday when three head constables of the 63 battalion of the BSFs Gujarat Frontier, all posted at different border posts near Gadra Road of Barmer, consumed the spurious liquor.
After which, the condition of all the three worsened. They were taken to Gadra Road Primary Health Centre, where Das died while Bhal Singh died in government hospital at Barmer.
